Web Fiction

The Internet introduced a whole new world for the modern-day writers by providing them with greater opportunities to have their works discovered by potential readers.

From this, web fiction was born.

Why do many write web fiction?  I mean, you can’t get rich that way.  Right?

For those who write web fiction, they do this because of their love for storytelling.  They relish in creating fantastical worlds and engaging characters, and then share them with their readers.  Most, for free.

Some are good quality.  Some are not so good.

What readers want is a good storyline that grabs them from the start, and keep them coming back for more.  Characters they can relate to.  A world they can get lost in.

As long as there is the Internet, web fiction will stick around.

Both good and not so good.

  1. Discovery or not some just like to write, I’m one of those that likes to get into a good story and follow thru till i’m completely satisfied of the out come right to the ending, If a few like it that’s ok! for the most part all writers can dream of big things and find themselves lost in rejection to many times, By writing the way you want it and not how somebody else will cut it all to shreds for the benefit of a sale that might work or might not, before anything look at what it cost, just write and if they like it fine then listen for sustenance but don’t kill the story. Thanks for your insight post Will.

  2. I started writing webfiction because I figured it was the only way to ever finish a project (I’d previously started and abandoned 3 novels), but also because I knew my story was not very commercial.

But, you know, I’d argue that the variety in quality of fiction applies not only to webfiction — I’ve certainly read a number of traditionally published books which have been terrible quality ;-)
