I could always use more exposure for my serial, Difficult Times. How does this interview procedure work?

    Hi:
It was nice to see that my interview is still posted on your website. I suppose, though, that means that you have had problems finding writers to interview. If you’re interested I have a suggestion that might help in this regard.

If you check sites like Kindle and KOBO, you will find hundreds of desperate young writers selling their ebooks in the $0.99 to $2.99 range. These sites typically allow a preview of up to ten percent of the novel. This allows prospective purchasers the chance to try before they buy. You might want to check out these previews. Not all these books are well written but the odds are you’ll find one you like. If so, take the plunge and purchase one you feel worth reading. Then read it.

In Kindle (and probably KOBO as well) there is a place where readers can leave comments on the book they have read. Writers crave feedback and they check the comment page often. Your next step is to use the comment section to introduce yourself and note a couple of things you liked about the book. Then politely ask the writer for an interview and leave your email address.

The odds, in my opinion, are fifty/fifty that the author will accept. First of all, you bought his/her book. Secondly, you read it and left a couple of nice comments. Thirdly, you requested an interview on a page that prospective purchasers will read in an attempt to judge if the book is worth buying – the author will believe that the interview request will help tip the balance in his favour. Why wouldn’t he grant your request?

If you were to use this technique every couple of weeks, I suspect you’d have a never-ending supply of interviews. In return, the authors will likely want to make use of your site to announce new book and such. Your website, in time, might became a very busy place.

I hope this has been helpful. Thanks again for the interview.

        Hi Carrie:
Next month I plan to publish the first season of my serial, Difficult Times, as an eBook. To help promote the book I am in the process of designing a website. In addition to self-promotion, this site will provide advice for new writers. If you are agreeable, I would like to provide a link to your site. If you are interested, let me know.

  3. Hello Walter!
I would definitely be interested! Once you have the first season out/your website live, with your permission, I would like to link them here as well as on my Twitter/Google+/Facebook.

Thanks, Carrie. I will keep you updated.

        Hi Carrie:
My website, Walter Shillington’s Author’s Workplace is now live. The web address is: http://www.waltershillington.csfoley.com/

I have included twenty-three articles of interest to budding writers and intend to write a few more. I focused on writing, editing, cover art, promotion and publishing – I used comments from your interview to write the article on ‘how to open a story’.

Under Promotion/Friendly Websites, I linked your site to mine.

My book, which includes all forty episodes of my serial, Difficult Times, is still in the hands of my editor. I plan to publish this novel near the end of September. I’ll let you know it is available at kindle.

Please take a look at my website and let me know what you think.

        Cheers
        Walter

Whoops… the book is being published near the end of October, not September.
